Two citation systems. Author-year (APA) does not fit AJ 17.167, RPC I 4242 or ILS 918. Hence: APA 7 for modern literature (§II.2), and a separate convention for ancient, epigraphic, numismatic and documentary sources (§II.1), naming the edition used where that edition bears the datum. The footnotes use the short form (author + year + page, or the ancient abbreviation); the full details are in §II.
The status of each datum — the mark — is not in the reading text. How a datum was consulted (firsthand, in transmission, calculated, construed, or not seen) is a control datum, not a reading datum; it would cloud the running text. Hence the footnotes carry no marks.
